The Path to True Greatness

Opening PrayerBegin with a prayer asking for wisdom and understanding as you study God's Word.   Read Mark 10:32-45 aloud as a group.   Background: Jesus is on His way to Jerusalem, where He will face crucifixion. He takes this time to teach His disciples about true greatness in the Kingdom of God.   Discussion Questions

  • What does Jesus predict will happen to Him in Jerusalem?
  • How do you think the disciples felt hearing this prediction for the third time?
  • Why is it significant that Jesus is leading the way to Jerusalem?

  • What do James and John ask of Jesus, and what does this reveal about their understanding of His mission?
  • How does Jesus respond to their request, and what does He mean by "the cup" and "the baptism"?
