Becoming An Everyday Disciple : Week 1
DAY 1: THE CALL
Scripture
“Andrew, Simon Peter’s brother, was one of these men who’d heard what John the Baptist said and then followed Jesus… Looking intently at Simon, Jesus said, ‘Your name is Simon, son of John, but you will be called Cephas’ (which means Peter).” – John 1:40-42
Reflection
- Jesus sees not just who we are, but who we can become
- He calls us despite our imperfections
- Our identity is transformed when we encounter Jesus
Daily Application
Take time today to write down your testimony – when did Jesus first “look intently” at you? How has He been transforming you since then?
DAY 2: FOLLOWING CLOSELY
Scripture
“‘Come, follow me,’ Jesus said, ‘and I will send you out to fish for people.’ At once they left their nets and followed him.” – Matthew 4:19-20
Reflection
- Discipleship requires immediate obedience
- Following Jesus means leaving old ways behind
- True discipleship affects our daily priorities
Daily Application
Identify one “net” (habit, attitude, or priority) that might be keeping you from following Jesus more closely.
DAY 3: MAKING THE CONFESSION
Scripture
“‘But what about you?’ he asked. ‘Who do you say I am?’ Simon Peter answered, ‘You are the Messiah, the Son of the living God.'” – Matthew 16:15-18
Reflection
- Personal confession matters more than popular opinion
- Truth comes through revelation, not just education
- Our confession becomes our foundation
Daily Application
Write your own personal confession of who Jesus is to you, based on your experience with Him.
DAY 4: FACING FAILURE
Scripture
“The Lord turned and looked straight at Peter…And he went outside and wept bitterly.” – Luke 22:61-62
Reflection
- Even committed disciples fail
- Jesus knows our failures before they happen
- Our failures don’t disqualify us from discipleship
Daily Application
Identify areas where you feel you’ve failed Jesus. Bring these to Him in honest prayer.
DAY 5: EXPERIENCING RESTORATION
Scripture
“The third time he said to him, ‘Simon son of John, do you love me?’…Jesus said, ‘Feed my sheep.'” – John 21:15-17
Reflection
- Jesus pursues us even after failure
- Restoration comes through honest conversation with Jesus
- Our restoration leads to renewed purpose
Daily Application
Spend time in prayer, allowing Jesus to restore any areas where you feel distant from Him.
DAY 6: BECOMING A TEACHER
Scripture
“Then Peter stood up…and those who accepted his message were baptized, and about three thousand were added to their number that day.” – Acts 2:14, 41
Reflection
- Disciples become teachers
- Our story can impact others
- Growth comes through sharing our faith
Daily Application
List three people in your life who need to know Jesus. Pray for opportunities to share your faith with them.
DAY 7: LIVING IT DAILY
Scripture
“For this very reason, make every effort to add to your faith goodness; and to goodness, knowledge…” – 2 Peter 1:5-8
Reflection
- Discipleship is an ongoing journey
- Growth requires intentional effort
- Our faith should be evident in daily life
Daily Application
Create a specific plan for how you will pursue growth as Jesus’ disciple in the coming week.
